iPad Tips 2012 #5 App Store – How to identify and download Apps

by useyouriPad on March 28, 2012

An App made for an iPad is like no other. App’s designed for an iPad take advantage of the technology that the iPad offers. There are now over 200,000 Apps to choose from! In order to purchase and download from the App Store, you’ll need to have an Apple ID. If you have used the iTunes Store, then you can sign in to the App Store using the same Apple ID you use on the iTunes Store. If you don’t have an Apple ID, you will need to create one before you can begin using the App Store. Go here for instructions to get an Apple ID: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479#

Once you have your Apple ID you are set to begin ordering Apps. Tap on the App Store App icon and go to the area that you want to browse.

There are areas like Top Charts, Featured  and Categories that you can start your search. You can look at the Top Paid Apps, Top Free Apps, or tap on categories to get the Top Business apps etc. Type in a search for your hobbies, interests or for Business. Once you identify an App I suggest the following steps:

  1. Tap on the icon for the app and then read the description and check out the ratings. You can sort the ratings by Most critical to really see the issues. For business Apps I suggest that you discuss the App with people that are ACTIVELY using it.
  2. Once you are comfortable with the choice you will touch the price of the App and it will turn green to BUY APP. Touch BUY APP.
  3. The Apple ID Password will appear and you will type your Password to buy the App or press cancel to keep looking.
It is important to not just start buying Apps that sound good as you will waste a lot of money! I actively use 5 business Apps and a couple of APPLE designed Apps such as iPhoto,  Keynote, Pages and iMovie. Don’t forget about ESPN ScoreCenter!
Tip: Apps will not run in your computer. They are designed for iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Some Apps will run on all three.
Happy App hunting – only 200,000 to look through!
